No More Chances

Ten years of marriage end with one cafeteria-tray humiliation — and that is only the opening move. Amy spent a decade being called ordinary while her husband William saved his tenderness for an old flame; when their daughter gets hurt and he still chooses the other woman, Amy finally stops asking for a seat at his table. What William never learned is who her father was, and why powerful men have spent ten years quietly looking for her. The pleasure here is structural: every insult William hands out gets inventoried, then repaid with interest by a heroine who plans before she strikes, and the show is smart enough to let her be furious without making her cruel. Worth it for anyone who likes divorce revenge cold, competent, and carried out by a woman who never raises her voice.
