The king of Blood City keeps a fallen human noble at his side — punishing her with hatred, binding her with a blood oath — and the show keeps the actual relationship deliciously ambiguous: godfather or ex-husband? Sparse setup, maximum atmosphere; the fun is decoding what the obsession is hiding while she works out which leash to pull.
